How the Ecommerce Benchmark Score Works

Last updated: July 8, 2026
Ecommerce Benchmark scores Shopify stores across 6 areas — Creative & Ads, Reviews & UGC, AI Visibility, Agentic Commerce, Competitor Synthesis, and CRO — benchmarked against real competitors in your category and country. Every area is scored 0 to 100 using public store data, so the result reflects where you actually stand, not a generic checklist.

Most audit tools score one thing: just SEO, just CRO, just ads. Ecommerce Benchmark scores six areas in parallel and benchmarks each one against a real cohort of competitor stores in your category and country. Two of those areas — AI Visibility and Agentic Commerce — are unique to this benchmark: most tools don’t measure whether AI systems can find, recommend, or transact with your store at all.

The 6 areas

Creative & Ads
What it measures: How your ad creative and product presentation perform against your category, pulled from what’s actually running right now.
Data source: The Meta Ad Library and Google Ads Transparency Center — public and currently live, not self-reported.
Reviews & UGC
What it measures: The strength and depth of your social proof — review volume, recency, rating trends, and user-generated content — relative to competitors in your category.
Data source: Your on-site reviews plus public third-party platforms, including Trustpilot and Google Reviews.
AI Visibility
Unique to us
What it measures: How discoverable and citable your store is to AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini — structured data, crawlability, and whether AI assistants surface you when asked for recommendations in your category.
Data source: Your homepage HTML and structured data.
Agentic Commerce
Unique to us
What it measures: Whether your store is ready for AI shopping agents (ChatGPT, Claude, Stripe-network agents) to browse, evaluate, and transact on a customer’s behalf — structured product data, agent-accessible checkout, and machine-readable store information.
Data source: Your homepage HTML and structured data.
Competitor Synthesis
What it measures: How your store’s positioning, pricing signals, and messaging compare directly to the specific competitors in your category and country — not a generic industry average.
Data source: The same public signals used across the other areas, compared head-to-head against your competitor cohort.
CRO Audit
What it measures: Core conversion fundamentals — page speed, checkout friction, trust signals, and mobile experience — the foundational layer every store needs regardless of category.
Data source: Omniconvert’s CRO Benchmark dataset, the same research behind crobenchmark.com, covering 7,000+ e-commerce sites across 19 industries.

What this benchmark doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t replace a full technical CRO audit. CROBenchmark and dedicated conversion tools go deeper on execution-level testing.
  • It doesn’t measure backend performance: server response times, inventory accuracy, or fulfillment speed.
  • It only works on public Shopify storefronts. Non-Shopify stores, unreachable domains, and password-protected stores are detected and surfaced, never scored with bad data.
  • It only uses public data: ad libraries, public reviews, your homepage HTML, and structured data. It never accesses your Shopify admin or customer data.

FAQ

What is Ecommerce Benchmark and what does it audit?
A free, live-streaming audit tool for any public Shopify store. It scores six areas on a 0–100 scale: Creative & Ads, Reviews & UGC, AI Visibility, Agentic Commerce, Competitor Synthesis, and CRO Audit, each benchmarked against real competitors in your category and country.
How is the score calculated?
Each of the 80+ criteria across the 6 areas is checked against your store’s public data, then compared to a cohort of real competitor stores in your category and country. The 6 area scores combine into an overall 0–100 score and category rank.
How often are scores updated?
There’s no fixed refresh schedule. A store’s score reflects its most recent audit run, and anyone can re-run the audit on a domain at any time to get a fresh score.
Is this the same data as CROBenchmark?
Partly. The CRO Audit module draws on Omniconvert’s CRO Benchmark dataset, the same research behind crobenchmark.com, covering 7,000+ e-commerce sites across 19 industries, as one input. The other 5 areas, including AI Visibility and Agentic Commerce, use separate data sources CROBenchmark doesn’t cover.
Who built this benchmark?
Omniconvert, a 13-year eCommerce optimization company with 70,000+ experiments across 2,500+ brands.
